Root Canal Treatment in Kurukshetra — Save Your Tooth, End the Pain

Root canal treatment has a reputation it does not deserve. Modern RCT relieves tooth pain — it does not cause it. It is typically no more uncomfortable than a standard filling, particularly when performed by a specialist endodontist like Dr. Harsh Sobti.

Why RCT Is Needed

What Happens Inside the Tooth

Understanding the condition that makes root canal treatment necessary.

🦠
Deep decay reaching the pulp

The pulp inside the tooth contains nerves and blood vessels. When bacteria reach it through untreated decay, infection and severe pain follow.

💥
A crack or trauma to the tooth

Physical injury can damage the pulp even without visible decay — causing infection that requires root canal to resolve.

🔄
Repeated dental procedures

Teeth that have had multiple procedures on the same spot can develop pulp inflammation — even without bacteria present.

😷
Abscess

An untreated infected pulp leads to abscess — a pocket of pus at the root tip causing swelling, pain, and potential spread of infection.

Symptoms

Signs You May Need Root Canal

These symptoms warrant prompt dental assessment — do not wait for them to resolve on their own.

😣
Severe toothache when biting or applying pressure

Pain on biting that is sharp, severe, or lingers after the pressure is removed

🌡️
Prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold

Sensitivity that lingers for more than a few seconds after the stimulus is removed

🌑
Darkening or discolouration of the tooth

A tooth turning grey or dark is often a sign the pulp has died

🔴
Swollen or tender gum around a tooth

Inflammation at the gum line around a specific tooth — particularly if there is a pimple-like bump

😶
A tooth that was painful and has gone numb

Numbness can mean the nerve has died — the infection is still present even without pain

🤕
Facial swelling

Swelling of the face or jaw from dental abscess requires urgent attention

The Procedure

Root Canal — Step by Step

Demystifying what actually happens during RCT.

01
Local Anaesthesia

The tooth and surrounding area are fully anaesthetised. Dr. Sobti waits until you are completely numb before beginning. If you feel anything, tell him — the procedure stops until you do not.

02
Access and Removal

A small opening is made in the tooth. The infected pulp is removed from the chamber and the root canals using very fine instruments.

03
Cleaning and Shaping

The canals are cleaned, shaped, and disinfected thoroughly. This is where specialist training matters — complex canal anatomy requires experience to navigate correctly.

04
Sealing

The canals are sealed with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha. A temporary filling is placed to protect the tooth.

05
Crown Placement

At a subsequent appointment, a crown is placed over the tooth to restore its strength and protect it from fracture — a root-treated tooth is more brittle than a living one.

💡

Why not just extract the tooth? Saving a natural tooth is almost always preferable. Extraction causes bone loss beneath the gap, adjacent teeth shifting, and bite changes — all of which require further treatment to address.

FAQs

Root Canal Questions

Is root canal treatment painful?
+
No. You are fully anaesthetised throughout. The procedure ends the toothache — it does not cause one. Some mild soreness for 2–3 days after is normal, but the severe pre-treatment pain is immediately gone.
How many appointments does RCT take?
+
Typically 2–3 appointments. The first removes the infected pulp and places a medicated dressing — most patients leave the first appointment with significant pain relief. The second or third appointment completes the sealing and discusses crown placement.
How long does a root-treated tooth last?
+
With a crown placed promptly after root canal, a root-treated tooth can last decades. Neglecting to have the crown placed promptly is the most common cause of root-treated teeth failing — the unprotected tooth is brittle and can fracture.
I have been told I need root canal but I am scared. What should I do?
+
Come in and talk to Dr. Sobti first. Many patients who were dreading the procedure are surprised by how comfortable it actually is when performed properly. Understanding the procedure before it begins significantly reduces anxiety.
