Hematology is the study of blood — its cells, composition, and conditions affecting it. A blood test from our hematology department can reveal anaemia, infections, clotting problems, and markers of serious conditions — all overseen by Dr. Raashi Sobti MD Pathology AIIMS.
Complete blood analysis for a wide range of clinical indications.
The most common blood test. Measures red blood cells, haemoglobin, white blood cells (with differential), and platelets. Detects anaemia, infection, inflammation, and platelet disorders.
Microscopic examination of blood cells. Identifies abnormal cell shapes, malaria parasites, leukaemia cells, and specific disorders not visible on automated counts.
Marker of inflammation. Used in monitoring rheumatoid arthritis, infections, TB, and autoimmune diseases. Often ordered alongside CRP.
Measures new red blood cell production by the bone marrow. Essential in anaemia assessment to determine if the bone marrow is responding appropriately.
ABO and Rh blood typing. Essential before transfusions and surgeries. Cross-matching ensures compatibility before blood is given.
Identifies abnormal haemoglobin types — used to diagnose sickle cell disease, thalassaemia, and related haemoglobinopathies.
Rapid and reliable malaria detection. Both rapid antigen test and microscopic smear examination available for definitive diagnosis.
Sensitive marker of acute inflammation and infection. Rises within hours of infection or injury. Used alongside other tests for infection monitoring.
These are the most common clinical situations where blood tests are requested.
Anaemia — iron deficiency, B12 deficiency, or chronic disease — is one of the most common and most missed causes of persistent fatigue
CBC reveals elevation in white blood cells (infection) or specific patterns suggesting bacterial vs viral cause
Platelet count and function tests assess whether the clotting system is functioning correctly
CBC and clotting tests are standard before any surgical procedure to assess anaemia and bleeding risk
